Last April, while grinding through the Bordeaux En Primeur futures campaign, we made a stop at Château Clinet to taste the current vintage from barrel. Clinet is located in the heart of Pomerol plateau, home of some of the best red wine in the world including Chateau Petrus, La Fleur Petrus, La Conseillant and many more. As expected, the Grand Vin wine was magnificent, still youthful and compact and showing tons of potential. 

So when proprietors Ronan Laborde and Monique Bailly brought out the newest vintage of their everyday, affordable Ronan Bordeaux Rouge 2020, we were amazed. How could a $15 wine compete with the Grand Vin?

Well this little bargain Bordeaux totally held its own, and while the Clinet is arguably much better, it’s also about 10 times the price, and you need to wait 5-10 years to really enjoy it at its prime.
